Reviews about Dawsons Music Reading

Drove to the Reading branch of Dawsons to return a guitar bought online - nothing wrong with it - made the mistake of purchasing without trying it out for real. Researched the video reviews online but they somehow make all guitars sound amazing. I took the opportunity to try out five guitars earmarked online - to find a replacement . The branch has an excellent private sound proof room for the purpose. The service from Pete at the Reading store was superb - so helpful, nothing too much trouble - really nice guy - and he didn't push for a sale which really annoys us all I'm sure. He filled the wee room with my options, offering useful snippets but leaving me alone to make my choice. The reviewer who accuses the store of 'upselling' must have encountered the wrong guy at the wrong time. And those who brand the store 'unfriendly' must be confusing it with PC World. None of them sound particularly touchy-feely themselves. And how the hell can you expect EVERY member of staff to be an expert on EVERY musical instrument in that aircraft hanger of a store? I would advise buyers to research instruments online, pick out a few - then go to a store, try them and buy them there. The staff at this branch were excellent - efficient, very pleasant and responsible for the outcome of my visit. I didn't intend to purchase at the store because my refund had not been processed. But I did. Why? Because I came away with a stunning Gretsch G9521 which is £321 (retail), £310 (online sale price) but I paid £229 in the store clearance! So I am a happy punter. Online is not always the best option, folks. The stores have hidden treasures.

Big showroom, a great selection of instruments and equipment and knowledgeable, friendly staff make this a great place to spend a couple of hours. Selection ranges from guitars, amplifiers and effects pedals to electronic pianos, keyboards and synthesisers to name only a few. Well with a visit.
